Hi all, My mother is an American and has not been a physical resident since she was fourteen, i applied for a American passport as my cousin did this four years ago but my application got denied. All my family apart from my mum lives in the states. What would be the best way to get myself and my young family over to America. In the UK i'm a skilled roofer / wall cladder on a qualification NVQ 3 and have a number of qualifications for plant and signaling, my wife has a university degree in assessing and nursery management. Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks in advance

I thought if one of your parents is a US citizen you automatically get citizenship, you should contact a US immigration attorney you can do a consultation by phone.

Were you born in wedlock or out of wedlock?

You didn't get US citizenship at birth as your mother needed to have been physically present in the US for 5 years before your birth, including 2 years after she turned 14 (she didn't have to have been "resident" -- the cumulative total of days of physical presence of all her trips to the US just needs to be enough).

Are you under or over 18?
