  • When to get an immigration lawyer for filing

    Hi,

I am filing for citizenship with all the requirements met, but during my last 5 year window, the first two was outside the country and I made visits every 5 months. The lawyers I have consulted have said they will just help me fill the forms (which I am able to do), and will not attend the interview. Should I get a lawyer and pay $2k-5k for help filing the form?

    Thanks

I will advise you secure a lawyer that will attend the interview with you due to excessive travels and long stay outside the United States. You do not need a lawyer/representative to fill N-400 form, so long as you can read and answer questions accurately.

**** Just my point of view**

Any lawyer will have to review all your filings anyway, and charge you for that review, before attending any in person interview. So you might as well get the lawyer early.

When I immigrated to America, I also had some difficulties with the documents: and my family and I turned to the lawyer. The lawyer of the company helped us to solve our problems and after 5 year we became citizens. I believe that in such an important matter, the help of specialists is crucially necessary and it is better to contact a lawyer as soon as possible, because it is pretty much impossible to get all the documents together in the right order in a timely manner unless you have a ton of time and infinite patiense. Speaking from experience it is worth every penny.
