  • Reschedule naturalization interview - original appointment valid until rescheduled?

I received notice to appear for a USCIS naturalization interview. The scheduled date conflicts with a pre-planned travel. I asked for my interview to be rescheduled immediately upon receiving the notice letter. The NYC field office has had my letter (asking to be rescheduled) for 3 weeks now (I sent via certified mail, so I know when they received it). I have not yet heard back from them and the online status for my application still says “we have scheduled you for an interview”. My originally scheduled date is in 11 days (and I am supposed to leave for my trip in 7 days). My question is: If I don’t hear at all from the field office before my originally scheduled interview, does that mean that my appointment is still valid and I can (cancel my travel) and still appear for the original interview?
    Thank you!

It's unclear whether or not they're going to honor the request at this late in the stage. You should really get an infopass appointment and try to talk to someone about it there personally. It's too risky to assume one way or the other whether they've processed your request (and forgot to update the website) or they didn't even see your request yet.
    --Good luck--
Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.

Thanks for your response — appreciate it!

To help put things into context — are you saying this from personal experience, or is it more based on generally how you think the system works?

Also, to follow up on a scenario where they “process my ask to change my date but do not update the website”.

      1) First of all, do you know what “process” means? Do they give me a new date at same time when they cancel the original appointment, or are these two separate steps? I.e they cancel the first appointment but don’t give me a new date?

      2) If I were to show up and my original appointment has been cancelled. Can I reasonably expect them to schedule me for another date right then and there, or is it more likely to simply send me away. The reason why I ask.. NYC Field office no longer has info pass, so showing up at my original appointment is pretty much the only shot I have at talking to someone live.

      thoughts? Experiences?

      Thanks!
