Misdemeanor Petty Theft

When I was 18 I was charged for a misdeameanor petty theft, being with the wrong crowd. I am now 30 and submitted my N400 application for naturalization.

Would this affect my chances of becoming a citizen?
The attorney I used for my green card said not to worry because more than 5 years have passed.

I was just in your same shoes. I've been in the US for 21yrs.. I'm now 31 and 12yrs ago I have a petty theft infraction (I think thats a little lower than a misdemeanor).. Happy to say that I just had my interview yesterday and am now approved. Will have my oath on Jul 14th.. so needless to say, it went well and I'm extremely happy. As long as you provide the disposition record, then you'll be fine.
