  • Modifying N400

    Hello,

I missed a traffic citation and would like to add it to N400. I was told that I won't be able to modify N400. How can I get it included? Is it possible to cancel and reapply?

    Thank you.

N-400 interviews are all going going over the questions, making corrections etc. So just make sure you bring this up during the interview.

Was this traffic citation more than 500 dollars? If not, you don’t need to include it.

Thanks for the replies. It was for around $400 and was a red light camera ticket, not issued by a law enforcement officer, I am thinking of uploading the citation, instead of canceling and re-applying.

Part 12, Question 23 on the N400 form asks: Have you EVER been cited.... So, YES, all citations, regardless of the amount need to be included. If you do not remember the exact dates, you can put the approximate month or year.
However, documentation is only needed for citations >$500 / injury to others / involvement in drugs or alcohol / if there were arrests.

So it’s okay to bring to the interview and update with the officer on the spot?

even though the citation is 250-300? Do i still bring all the proof of payment / citation dismissed? I paid a lawyer to get it done for me

N400 interview is all about going over your application.
So YES, you can tell the officer you made a mistake and they will add this citation to the form.
If this citation was <5yrs ago, then I would advise that you get the proof of payment or that it was dismissed.
If you cannot find it, go to the BMV / Online (each state where you received the citation) and ask them for your certified driving record (it's usually the last 3-5 yrs and costs $5-$20).

Your goal for the N400 interview is to be confident, answer all questions and have documents so they can make a decision. Walking out with a request for more evidence can be a crappy feeling (I know many who have gone through this).
