  • N400 applied, GC expiring

    Hi
I'm awaiting N400 interview, applied almost a year but yet to get interview and my 10yrs GC expiring soon. What should i do? Anyone with experience kindly advise way forward. Thanks

Since your greencard was valid at the time of N400 filing, don't waste money renewing it.
Instead, call USCIS for an infopass appointment and get a I-551 stamp on your passport. This will prove as PR evidence for 1yr from the date of stamp.
Also, it is OK to go for the citizenship interview with an expired greencard (since it was valid at the time of filing)

Just remember, you won't be able to renew your driver license. The law requires you to carry proof of legal status at all times. A valid greencard serves as this proof (or an expired card + I-90 proof of filing for replacement). Your status as a PR resident never expires, but a valid card is required, failing which, you may be cited / fined by immigration (ICE raids, stops, etc)
Opinion only. Cannot be construed as legal advice.
