  • Question on citation

    Hi All,
I need some advise from you. I am filling N400
form for my wife. She had got a ticket from traffic police in 2014 as she had stopped her car little ahead at the exit of shopping complex while waiting to merge on the road and a car coming on the road had hit her car bumper and police gave ticket to my wife mentioning that the car was too ahead while waiting to merge. My wife paid the fine later and passed online defense driving course also to remove the citation from her record as it was the first offense.
Q1) I believe I should be reporting this incident in N400 form even if it’s not showing up in the record. Is my understanding correct?
Q2) I am not able to pull the incident record as it was in 2014 so don’t know the citation ticket number or any more details. Where can I find more details now to report under Part 12 item 29? Only thing I could find in my old emails is the claim number to our insurance company. I called the insurance company but they don’t have any details recorded related to the citation number . Please advice.

Well when I applied anything under $500 didn't need to be reported but I still reported a ticket. The agent never asked me for any proof. As long as you cleared it, you should be fine.

Do the right thing by reporting. The USCIS person has all information in front of them while they interview us, so better be honest. Also while filling N400 if you put that question as No. It is time to tell them that your assumption is that anything < $500 need not be reported and they will correct you if required.

Just completed my Interview today (02/04/2021) at Dallas USCIS location and this is what I learned, the adjudicating officer knows everything about our citations. When I informed him about my 2019 Citation only, by first putting the assumption out that only 5 yrs. data is requested, he asked me about the citation I got 6 yrs. before & I had to share the details. So have all the fine payment evidences available to share if requested.
