  • anyone apply for naturalization without having done proper change of addresses?

My wife moved several times, but we hadn't realized we needed a change of address form. When we found out I submitted one for her that listed the last address they'd have on file (when she applied for her green card), and said the new address was our current address. We lived somewhere else in between those two times, which we plan to disclose on the application. Has anyone had a similar situation when applying for citizenship where you didn't have proper change of addresses for your entire time in the country? Did they bring it up?

We moved three times between our green card and naturalization, once across the country to another state. Didn't submit any change of address to USCIS. Not sure what you mean by 'proper change of address' form. I think govt records are automatically updated when you file your annual tax return, and you get/renew your driver's license.

Also, when you fill in the N-400, it asks about your residence in 'Part 5', and you list all the addresses you lived at during the last 5 years (or 3 if that is applicable to you) starting with your current address.

My spouse already got citizenship, and nobody asked about the moves or diff addresses at any point in the process. And I have my interview in a couple of weeks.

arkaa, andcar is referring to the Form AR-11, Alien's Change of Address Card Form.

This is required every time a non-citizen moves/changes address.

The sponsor must also file Form I-865, Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address. This needs to be done until the immigrant becomes a US citizen.

The government does not automatically update your address with USCIS when you file taxes or renew your license.

Instructions are given when you get your green card in the first place.

andcar, I think it will be OK. You are supposed to do it and technically there is a penalty listed but a lot of people forget and I don't think it will be a problem. I do not think they actually penalize people for it. But please keep in mind that I have not experienced this myself, so I am just guessing that it will be OK. Seems like a very common thing.

Well, I learned something new today - was not at all aware of this requirement. Thank you.
Here's an article that I found on it https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclope...e-address.html

As I already mentioned, we moved three times and didn't do the address change but didn't face any issues in the naturalization process.

Thanks both of you! I'm leaning towards not bringing it up and hoping they don't. Worst case scenario we'll have to litigate it I guess, because it really was inadvertent.

I was worried about it too when I applied. It was never mentioned. Most people don’t even know they have to fill it out. And I haven’t heard anyone having issues with it. So don’t worry
