  • HELP! Still waiting for 751 approval - but ready to apply for N400 soon. What to do?

    Hi there,

The wait time at Vermont Center is taking forever so most likely I would apply for N400 without the 751 approval. Has anyone applied for N400 without the approval of 751? If so, how did your application go? Would appreciate some tips.

Also, what pieces of evidence/documents did you submit for N400? Was it just the same pieces of evidence you submitted when you applied for 751? And since one of the requirements is a copy of the greencard - a copy of my conditional greencard is ok to submit, right?

Lastly, do I need a lawyer for my N400 application? Is it necessary to have a lawyer?

Thanks all! This forum has been so helpful since my conditional greencard application - I really am grateful I found this community.

While I haven't personally filed both at the same time I have seen other people on this forum do it and I can't remember them having any problems with it.

I filed by myself and if your case is straightforward then there is no need to use a lawyer. I would apply via the online application that basically walks you through it with everything you need. They won't let you file unless you have done all the parts!

I filed my citizenship like 6 months after completing my 751 and pretty much resubmitted the same evidence plus a house and car deed that we had brought in the mean time.

My only piece of advise is I would not submit it on the day you are eligible but wait a few days. I have seen a couple of cases where people submitted in the early hours of the first day they were eligible and because of where the US server was based it registered them filing a day early and therefore making their application ineligible due to filing early. Most of the people seemed to have successfully argued against it but it caused a lot of headaches and unnecessary stress! I even noticed with my own application it had been filed a day earlier but luckily I didn't submit on the first day of eligibility so it didn't effect me.

Hope this helps and sorry i couldnt answer all your questions!

Thank you for the tips!! I remember you also shared some tips with me when I applied for my 751. You are a blessing to a lot of us here!

Very well noted on the timing of submission. I’ll submit mine a week after the first day I am eligible to apply just to be sure.
