  • Wait for 10y Greencard vs. File N400 ?

    Hi folks.
I filed the I 751 to get my 10 years greencard. This was 18 months ago. I received the 2 years extension letter. It will expire in 6 months.
    I'm eligible to file N 400.

My question: does it worth filing for N 400 or it's better to wait for the 10 years greencard?

I'm asking this because I'm worried about changing job after the 2 years extension letter expires. I'm wondering if it just better to wait for the definite green card and just after that to file N400. I'm worried if I file the N 400 now it would take even longer to get a new document. I'm asking this because with no valid document I cannot get a new job. (Or does I received another extension letter after I file the N 400?)

Thanks for your time reading this.

You should file N-400 now. Some people say it might help speed up the I-751, although some others disagree.

You should not be worried about changing jobs after the extension letter expires. You can always get an I-551 stamp if your I-751 is still pending. But you don't even need that -- you can always just use an unrestricted Social Security card plus your driver's license for the I-9.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

I think you pointed the right direction. My social security is still "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION".
I'll go to the social security department with my Green Card / Extension letter and see if they can replace it.
      That would solve my problems.
I will keep you guys updated.
      Thanks
