  • absence during the 5 years

After we received our Green Card, my son, who was a minor at the time, lived outside the United States with his mother for more than 6 months but less than a year, while I remained in the United States continuously. Since he is now over 18, he will be applying for naturalization on his own. Can he claim continuous residence based on me staying in the US, or does it restart to when he returned? I'm asking because on the USCIS website it says that "an applicant may overcome the presumption of a break in the continuity of residence" if their "immediate family members remained in the United States". It also seems to require that they did not terminate their employment in the US and leased or owned a home in the US, which don't seem relevant to a minor.

    Thanks!!
