  • Citizenship application process

    Hello everyone,
I will be eligible to apply for citizenship in a weeks time. GC date - 8/10/20. I want to have everything ready and apply when I am eligible. I have already filled N400 that I am going to upload on the web site. Other that N-400 what else I need to do ? would there be any thing else I need to do on the website ? Also it seems there is no requirement of too many documents. based on my research all I need is copy of GC, marriage certificate and payment receipt .Is this correct ? If anything else is required, can some share the link ? When I googled it, it gives big list like tax return, good moral certificate etc.
Another question - I have filled PDF form but I can not sign it online and also i can not fill A number on each page, so do I print it, sign it, put A number on each page and then scan and upload on the website ? if I have to do this, can i do this now and start application process and submit once eligible ? My concern is date on the form will be prior to become eligible.

    Thanks.

You’ll need a copy of both sides of your GC. If you’re married, include your marriage certificate, and if there were prior marriages, have proof of termination (like divorce decrees). For legal issues, provide court records. Men who lived in the US between 18-26 need proof of Selective Service registration or a status letter. If you’ve had trips longer than six months, show evidence you maintained US residence.

The filing fee is $710 online or $760 for paper submissions (as of April 2024). Filing online is simpler. You upload documents, pay fees, and sign everything digitally, no printing, scanning or signing required.

You can file up to 90 days before meeting the continuous residence rule. For example, with a Green Card issued August 10, 2020, you can apply starting May 12, 2025. Just ensure you’re eligible on the day you submit.

After filing, you’ll have a biometrics appointment (fingerprints, photo, signature), then an interview to review your application and test your US civics knowledge. Approval means taking the Oath of Allegiance at a ceremony to officially become a US citizen.

Hope this helps. I answer queries based on my knowledge, some help from websites like skiplegal.ai and experiences. Good luck!
