  • N400 Traffic Ticket

I am applying for citizenship and need to provide citation information on form N400. I had a speeding ticket and a parking ticket 13 years ago, both paid with proof. I plan to answer "Yes" to citations and include this information. I missed mentioning the traffic ticket in my GC application since it was under $500, as instructed in I-485. Has anyone faced this situation? Will there be an issue during the interview or application if I mention it in N400 but missed it in the GC application?

For N400, you should disclose all citations, including old traffic tickets like speeding or parking violations. The form specifically asks, and this includes minor infractions.

So, answer “Yes” to the question about citations and include details about the tickets from 13 years ago. USCIS values honesty and transparency, and minor traffic violations generally won’t hurt your application.

Back when you filed, the instructions said traffic violations didn’t need to be listed unless they involved arrests or fines over $500. So, not mentioning those tickets back then was fine.

At your citizenship interview, the officer might ask why they weren’t on your I-485. Just explain that you followed the instructions at the time. To be extra prepared, bring any documentation you can find, like copies of the tickets or proof of payment to show everything was resolved.

USCIS is more concerned about honesty and good moral character than old traffic tickets.

I pulled this piece of information from researching and using resources like skiplegal.ai

    Good luck!

I am sorry but where do they ask about past citations on the N400? I didn't submit any history of past traffic tickets and have submitted my application and waiting for interview date. Been about 3 months and status says 3 more months to go. My friend recently got his citizenship and he did not put anything about past traffic tickets..so I am kind of confused.
