  • Travel during naturalization

    Hi all,
Can we travel out side US after citizenship interview ?
Is there specific time gap between interview and oath ? so that we can travel out side US and come back before oath ?
After oath if we have to travel ? how much time would it take to complete all process such as getting US passport etc?
What all thing needs to be after oath ?such as apply US passport, surrender Indian passport ? which one needs to be done first ? and then apply Indian visa ? or POI card ? I guess POI card will take long time. what else needs to be done

Also, any recent feedback on interviews in Philadelphia area. Is there any change in the process as there is lot of such discussion in media.

    Hi, Here is my response.
Can we travel out side US after citizenship interview ?
    Ans: yes. you can travel.

Is there specific time gap between interview and oath ? so that we can travel out side US and come back before oath ?
Ans: It depends on background checking. Sometimes it will happen within months. sometimes it may take longer time. But Better you plan for your travel after you get the notice.

After oath if we have to travel ? how much time would it take to complete all process such as getting US passport etc?
Ans: You can apply US passport immediately. If you have emergency travel, then apply passport through expedite process.

What all thing needs to be after oath ?such as apply US passport, surrender Indian passport ? which one needs to be done first ? and then apply Indian visa ? or POI card ?
Ans: First apply for US passport then surrender India passport near to the consulate and make sure you get surrender certificate too. After completion of these process, you can apply Indian visa as per the requirements.

    Thanks

After your citizenship interview, you can travel outside the US, but it’s best to wait until after the oath ceremony since the timing between the interview and oath varies. Once you take the oath, you’ll need to apply for your US passport (which usually takes a few weeks), surrender your Indian passport, and then apply for an Indian visa or OCI card. OCI generally takes longer to process.

Traveling outside the US after your citizenship interview depends on your oath schedule but just like choosing the right ladies shoes, timing and preparation matter. Once you’ve taken the oath, you can apply for your US passport (usually takes a few weeks), then surrender your Indian passport before applying for an Indian visa or OCI card.
