  • question from N400

    Hello there,
I have a question from the N400 application in #10

    G. Selective Service Registration:
    33. Are you a male who lived in the US at any time between your 18th and your 26th birthday in any status.

The answer is yes but I never registered with the selective service and its asking me to attach a statement why I did not register. I'm 27 years old and I got my green card in June 2008..

the question is what should I write in the statement?

It might be that USCIS registered you automatically when you got your green card. Try calling Selective Service and ask them to send you a status letter.

        Question from n400

By law, you are required to register with Selective Service if you're male and entered the U.S between the age(s) of 18-26 in any status other than non-immigrant status. If you answer "yes" then you need to provide proof that you registered with Selective Service. Call or write (fill out a form downloadable from SS site) Selective Service to request for a status letter. The letter states whether you were eligible or not to register for SS by the time you came to the U.S. That should be part of your initial evidence. Good luck
