  • DL Suspension, change of address error, Eligibility & Timeline

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum but haven't seen the info I need in the searches. I'm applying for naturalisation and see three potential pitfalls.

    1. 2010-2011 my mother became ill and I had to spend significant time outside the US:

    1 month August 2010
    4 months Nov-March 2010-2011
    5 months March 2011 - August 2011

The periods were broken up with brief (one month or less) trips back to the US. So in a 12 month period (aug-aug) I have been away for 10 months. But less than 6 months in each sitting. I obviously haven't stayed employed because it wasn't possible for my boss to accomodate - I kept my taxes, bank accounts and address mostly constant.
    Does this render me ineligible??

2.My driver's license was suspended for failing to maintain insurance (after I sold my car, oops)...Do I put this on my app? I've never had a ticket or appeared in court / been warned or arrested.

    3. I forgot to change my address for one of the places I lived (temporarily for 2 months). I did change it on my Driver's license so there is a record, will this cause my app to be rejected? I know it breaks one of the GC holder rules.

    4. Anyone know how long it takes from time of app to getting a passport? (realistic as opposed to listed which I already checked). I have to make another long trip home to help my mum again and I'm not rich enough to keep buying tickets!!!

Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated.

    1. Should not be a problem if you spent 30 months of the last 5 years in the US.

    2. Not sure about this one but since you did not pay a fine (over $500) I think you should be safe. I would still ask an immigration lawyer though.

    3. This could be a problem since you need to update your address with USCIS every time you move. You say this was a temporarily move, did you keep your old residence during this time as well? Again, I would ask an immigration lawyer.

    4. In my case it took 5 months overall from N400 application to receiving my passport but I had a pretty straight-forward case.

    Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for your insight! Every little helps as I'm trying to gauge whether I need to hire an attorney. I probably will just for safety...

I'll update this thread when I get everything filed.
