  • Trying to decide between Naturalization or Re-entry Permit

Hello everyone, I've been reading the forums here for a long time now in hopes of finding a similar case with mine until I decided to post a new thread and ask your help.
I've been a permanent resident for over 7 years now, married to a USC 15 years, stayed in the US since becoming LPR in Jan. 2004 until June 2008 with 3 short visits to our country. My son goes to school outside the US from 2008 until the present, since he's a minor I stay with him there but go back and fort, I never stayed outside the US for 180 days.

    My questions are:

    1. Am I eligible to apply for naturalization? As of my calculation I'm 1015 days out of the counrty since becoming an LPR over 7 years ago.

    2. When do I start counting my physical presence in the US, 5 years back from today or 5 years from 2004?

    3. Will they consider my case base on marriage or 5 year term?

    4. In eligibility self test, there is a question there wherein it asks if you stayed for a total of 30 months abroad since becoming an LPR. Since I'm 1015 days out, that would be a total of over 30 months. Should I make a go for it and hope that they would consider my stay here since getting my Green Card in 2004 even I failed the self eligibility test?

You know, I'm concern about these things because applying for naturalization takes time not to mention expensive. And the application fee is non-refundable that is why I'm trying to understand if I can go for it or not. If I'm not, I'll try to apply for a re-entry permit instead since my son is not done with his schooling yet. Please advise, thank you so much.
And oh, we're back in the US now, April 5th.

    Bree
