  • advice on joint tax filling for citizenship

please i need any advice on joint tax filling. my wife and me have filed tax jointly for 2008 and 2009 as married couples. But in 2010 due to W-2 form delay we filed as married but separtely with the same home address. please is it ok we can add all the 3yrs tax transcripts to all other documents to file for the citizenship without a problem of 2010 tax we filed separately?

As long as you pay your taxes (whether married filing jointly or married filing separately) it should not be a problem at all; just include all documentation you have for your filings.

It is not exactly that easy. I filed my tax returns married but separate with the same home address in 2007 due to me not working and my husband being on disability. the lady that interviewed me didn't like that but fortunately i had filed my 2010 tax returns and she didn't need my 2007 tax return as they require only past 3 years. Be prepared for a lot of questions and have a lot of proof of you and your spouse living together such as bills, statements, loans, lease... letters sent to the same address and pictures from different occasions. I almost didnt get my citizenship because of that, had to go back there twice (after passing my test) and this delayed my process. I dont say you wont get citizenship (you probably will) just be prepared for everything.
        Good luck!
