  • Destroyed Naturalization Certificate

I got my naturalization certificate on the 9-15-2011. Thought I should protect it so I laminated it. getting to post office to apply for passport, I learn that my certificate cannot be accepted that I need to file form n-565 which I already file. Does anybody has related experience to share, particular on how long it takes to process the n-565 form. Thank you for your contributions.

Depending on where you live, you will file your N565 either with the Texas or Nebraska service center. Both list their current N565 processing time as 6 months. You can check current processing times for both centers at: http://www.immihelp.com/processing-times/

OK, I lamiated my naturalization certificate as well, but the person processing my passport (at the local walk-in), she mentioned that while laminating is a "bad" thing to do, she would still accept it. She mentioned that if the passport issuing office felt that the certificate was tampered with they would not return the certificate.

However, I got certificate back (and the US passport issued as well)

I suggest you simply try another location.
