  • Name change for child as part of N-600

I am a US citizen by naturalization. when I was naturalized i opted to change my long name short.

Now I am applying for Certificate of citizenship (N-600) for my below 10 years minors. and the child name is also too long and sounds feminine. so I and my spouse want to change his name as part of the N-600 application process.

Would anyone please tell me the procedure I should follow and the forms I need to fill to get the child name change.

If this info may help. we live in north texas, collin county.

So far all my research leads me to apply to our court house separately for name change. but I want this process to be done with N-600 process as I got mine done with my citizenship.

    Thanks in advance.

Different than the N-400 process there is no option for a same-time name change with the N-600 as far as I know. So you most probably guessed right that you must first complete N-600 with the current name. Once you get the N-600 approved and receive the CoC, you can apply to court for the name change.

Another route may be to first change the name and then apply for N-600. This seems to be better so that the N-600 is in his new name but don't know if that's easier than the route described above.

Whatever route you take, it seems that there are two separate stages that you must complete: N-600 through USCIS and the name change through court.
