Do you have an urgent upcoming travel within the next two weeks or so? If yes, you can go to one of the passport agencies with your travel documents and apply there. There is an extra expedited fee of $60 for this kind of processing. In some cases, they give you the passport the same day or the day after.

If you do not have any urgent travel plans, then you can apply at a USPS office. Check usps.com to locate the nearest office that processes passport applications. With USPS, you have two options:

1. Routine
2. Expedited (extra $60 fee)

I did not have any urgent travel plans and applied for routine service at my USPS office last year. I got my passport in 4 weeks. At that time, the expedited processing was only two weeks faster and I did not want to spend the extra $60.
