Help! Have naturalization certificate but need to travel

HI, I'm new to this forum, but need some advice.
I just got my US naturalization certificate, but I need to travel to the UK really soon - as I understand it, I can no longer use my UK passport as I had to surrender my greencard - what is the quickest way to get a US passport? Is there any way to get one within a week? I understand there is an expedited service available, but for that I'd need proof of travel (plane tickets) - I obviously don't want to book the tickets until I know for sure I'll have a passport in time. It's a catch-22.

You need to go to the nearest passport agency which can give you a same-day or 48-hour passport:

They want proof of travel though if your travel is within the next two weeks. You will be fine if you buy the tickets since you will definitely get your passport in one or two days.
