J1 to H1B

Hi Everyone,

Here is my situation -- I'm a Moroccan citizen and just graduated with a Masters Degree in Computer Science from a French engineering school. I've been in the US since June 2012 on J1 Visa, however, this expires on June 1st 2013. I'm not under the 2 years home residency requirement.

I would like to stay in the us and work for the same company I did my J1 with, but without having to leave the US.

Should I apply for a change of status J1 to H1B, or a new H1B? If I go for the H1B, will I have the right to stay in the US until i get an H1B visa ?

I got many mixed responses from everywhere and I am totally confused now. Please help.

Hi Firetix,
Is the J1 to H1B transfer possible anyhow if someone is subjected to 2 year rule? My friend is from India and planning to come to US on J1 visa to teach in a university. However, he plans to work here after that on H1B. Is that possible?
