  • J1 visa under administrative processing for 4 months

    Hello,

I applied for J1 visa from US consulate in Kolkata, India and appeared for the interview on 2nd Jan 2013. I was given a questionnaire and was told that the visa will be granted after administrative processing under the clause 221(G). I emailed all the replies to the provided address on the next day.
It is more than 4 months and the visa status still says pending. Does anybody here have any idea what is the maximum possible administrative time for J1 visa ?
Any advice regarding what can I do ?

Thanks in advance and with best regards,
    Manas Khan.

Let me ask, is this for some kind of research training. Well if it is a YES then they do take some time to do background search and maybe that what is taking long. I too was subjected to 221g and got it within a month from my date of interview. Keep your fingers crossed, because at this time you can only wait. I hope you did not apply to early. Usually they do turn in before your intended date of arrival in the U.S.A

I will be going to US for postdoctoral research. My joining date at UCLA was 1st Feb and I appeared for the visa interview on 2nd Jan. My visa is pending since then and the joining date is being shifted every month!
Is there anything that I could do to get some info how long it may take ?

      Thanks and best regards,

I also got 221g white slip, which meant administrative processing. My passport was returned to me and I was asked to submit after I hear from the embassy. My intended date is from 26th. When can I expect my visa? (I gave my interview on 14th may and it has been 10 days by today).
