Hi,
I will start studying with a J1 this August. My DS-2019 and J1 are valid for one year because of the funding situation and I will likely get a new DS-2019 after I get new funding. I've been told that I don't necessarily need a new visa after I get the new DS-2019 and will only get a new visa (and go through the process with interview etc.) when I leave the US e.g. for vacation.
Now, we want to add my husband and get him a J2. At the moment, my DS-2019 says I'm not accompanied by any dependents. Hence, I guess if I want to get the J2 for him, I will need a new DS-2019. My J1 is still valid until next year, but will I need a new visa after I change the DS-2019 to include my husband?
I'm planning on going home for christmas and returning to the US together with my husband. Hence, it is very important to know if I will need to apply for a new J1 before I am allowed to enter after my trip.
