Living and working in US on L2. Go to Canada for J1 stamp?

Hi all,

Please help! I am a British citizen currently living and working in the US on an L2 visa. I have J1 visa papers and a sponsor, and have booked a visa appointment at Vancouver. I'm worried that they'll deny my request as a TCN. Is there any way I can help this go more smoothly? Can anyone offer their advice/experience?
