As a j2 visa holder, can I work for my current foreign employer while in the US?

I am a j-2 visa holder and am still waiting for my EAD to be issued. I've been working for a foreign startup company for the past 3 years and I can continue working for that company remotely from my new home in the US. Can I continue being employed under my existing contract and be payed to my foreign bank account as before while in the US (before getting my work permit)?
