J2 Visa : newbie help

Hi,
Am applying for J2 visa in november. i have been told that person with j2 can work but after getting EAD. Generally how long it takes to get EAD? Is there any rule on what are the type of jobs J2 can do ? will it be problem for J1 if J2 gets into industry with little higher payscale ?
In form DS-156 it is mentioned that if passport doesn't have Sirname, mention full name in teh Surname section and first name FNU. Will this case any issue in US ?

Does J2 passport need to include Spouse name in the passport ? Or its okay if we have sufficient documents like marrige certificate...

Also please advise on this.. how many weeks before one would get appointment on consulate ?

it took my wife about 45 days to obtain the EAD as a J-2. Rules say that J-2 person can work to gain work experience, earn money to pursue cultural, social activities, tours etc but J-2 income should not be meant to supplement J-1's income meaning it is OK to have small jobs. But I am not really sure whether anybody will check what job you are doing after getting EAD.
There is a practice of writing FNU or LNU whatever is used in visa application should be maintained everywhere once in US.
You can include spouse name in passport by applying for miscellanious changes, it doesnt take long. May be possession of marriage certificate is good enough for visa, not sure though.

Getting appointment in consulate depends on the rush at that consulate. keep checking for dates everyday, sometimes dates suddenly open up due to cancellations. But you can change the selected date only once. If you want to change again, you will have to cancel the selection first made and start all over
