URGENT HELP needed! J1 overstay of 2 days
HI!
Need your help on J1 visa matter. I have had J1 visa status before and I'm currently in the states with my second J visa (this time a short term one).
My contract at the University ends 30th of June. Grace period allows me to stay until 30th of July, If I'm right. But I booked my flight 7 months ago and it's for the 1st of August, which would make me overstay for two days beyond my J1 status ends.
What should I do?? I will be on a summer course in California that ends on the 1st of august exactly, right in time to take my flight back to New york and from there straight to Italy, my home country. but even if I bite the bullet losing the two final days of my course, British Airways (my damned carrier) would make me pay a ridiculous amount of money to move my flight back of two days (and depart from California instead of from JFK eventually) in high season.
what can I do??
what if I write to some authority explaining truthfully the situation saying that I'm trying to overstay, I just have a return flight for what I thought was the day after the expiration date (and turns out is two days after, i just counted a month)
HELP! I need to make arrangements immediately!
