First my scenario: My infant daughter needs cardiac surgery that can have upto 3-4 months of follow up. My post-doc , under J-1 AT ends June 19th. Even if I gather money for the medical costs, I am worried about my status one month after (i.e. July 19th). What are my options?
I want to point out that I was able to get my DS-2019 extended for the full 3yrs allowed, but took a post-doc offer for just the first year. So my DS-2019 is valid, on paper, until 2012. I am not sure though how the information is relayed between departments and what happens when my current school's post-doc officially ends.
