  • Need help with few questions

    All,

    I have applied for 30+ published postdoc position all over the world and no response. I was able to find a PostDoc Research Fellow position in Canada where the path to Green Card is much easier. But I prefer USA. So USA related questions coming to my mind before I reject Canada offer. The Canada offer is also sponsored through an external funding source.

    Questions
    ===========

    1) I have received external funding to come to a leading University as a Visiting Research Scholar on J1. My uncle's Engineering firm will provide the sponsorship for my research scholar position. They can sponsor for 2 years. Will this pose any issues while getting the J1 visa?

    2) I already have 10 year multiple entry tourist visa and I cam to USA to present a paper while doing Ph.D. Will this complicate the issue?

    3) What is the situation in India to get the J1 visa? Are embassies opened for J1 new stamping?

    4) How hard it is to get the J1 visa? What extra documentation should I carry with me? I am comparing J1 and F1.

    5) How tough it is to apply for EB1 visa after 3 year completion of working as a J1 visa holder assuming I get an official paid J1 visa PDF job? I know we need to get NOC from India etc. I have heard lot of people convert from J1 to EB1, but in my case it will be a research scholar transition to EB1. I am planning to become a fully paid post doc with no contingencies within 3 years and pursue EB1 application

    6) Should I take Canada over USA since the GC is much easier there.

    Please let me know if I am forgetting any other issues.

    Thank you all.

    Few more questions

    1) Is it better for me to self sponsor myself instead of showing affiliation with my uncle company in USA? Will that hurt my chances to get the J1 visa?
    2) Is it better for me to come to USA with my tourist visa and change it to J1 status while I am here? I am asking this question since I am far away from US Embassy and I am not sure if they are open.
    Thanks
