  • Different permanent and next-of-kin address

    Hi all,
I am currently on J1 visa and planning to apply for 2-year home residency waiver. My passport currently has a New Delhi address (rented accommodation) from my time in India. I have the option of getting the address changed over here in USA; however, the confusion is that the permanent address to which I am getting my address changed to is my father-in-laws' address (Jharkhand) while next-of-kin address (brother) is in Ghaziabad. My brother is busy taking care of my mother who is bedridden and therefore, may not be able to devote time if it will be required during police verification or if he has to make multiple visits; while my father-in-law can spare time and do follow up. So, my questions are:
    1. Can I have different permanent and next-of-kin address?
    2. If yes, is it okay to give my father-in-laws' address as permanent address?
    3. Who will provide affidavit in that case; my in-laws or brother?

I really look forward to hearing from anyone having similar experience and appreciate in advance.

    Thanks,
    Manish
