I am stuck. I was trying to be honest and communicated with my J1 sponsor that at the end of my 1st year on J1, I would like to switch to H1b, but this is their response:
"Your intent to pursue a change of status without returning home is a violation of program regulations. By not returning home you are not fulfilling the requirements of your J1 program. If you do plan to move forward with changing your status [We the J1 program sponsor] would terminate your program. Program termination is a negative SEVIS status that may require you to return home immediately and could negatively impact your ability to return to the U.S."
My question is, if I go ahead and apply for change of status, when would my J1 sponsor be notified? Would they be able to negatively affect my SEVIS (and future entry to the US)?
Would the J1 sponsor be notified if I apply for Dept of State Waiver?
