  • Can I extend my J1Visa in the US???

I am in the US on J1 research which is going to expire soon. My employers will be issuing me a new DS2019 and have asked me to extend my JI visa accordingly. Will I be able to apply for J1 visa in the USA or will have to go back to my home country for the visa stamping??
your input will be much appreciated

If your I-94 has D/S on it and if your employer extends the DS form properly and updates your SEVIS record, you are allowed to stay in the US as long as DS form remains valid. Whenever you leave the US next time, you will need to apply for J1 visa in order to return in J1 status.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Yes, you can. But it is advisable to carry a letter from your exchange program director or designated official stating that your exchange visit is extended. Also carry your valid DS form and passport, I-94. You will most probably not be asked for any of these.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

No. Visa can only be applied while outside the US. Why do you want to do that?
