    Hi,

    I am currently on H4 VISA I got admiision in Residency.College is sponsering my J1 VISA.

    I want chnage my Status from H4 to j1.

    I need advice.

    Shall I go to India to get the VISA stamped? OR I should appy for status chage here in US only.


    If I want to change my status do I need Lawyers help?

    SOme people told me that change of status from H4 to J1 is little risky and chances of rejection from Home Country is very high.



    Please Advice .This Urgent.

    u shd contact the state dept and inquire abt the preliminary requirements...also, i had heard that if u are not a us citizen, then u wld have to go to your home country to get new visas....before, going to canada or mexico wld have worked but not anymore ....anyways, as for chances being too risky, u shd get letters written from your supervisors/professors confirming that your qualifications and experiences are needed.....chances wld be less risky!....but if u can get all this done in the US without traveling all the way to India, then that wld be best!

      I know it has been long but if you could share your experince it will help as I am in the same boat. Should I go to India or Canada for visa? How hard it is and what would be the best way. Please please reply...thanks

        Have you considered the restrictions on the J visa ?....two yr residence rrequiremnt before you can chnag eyour Visa status.
