J1 to Student visa

I am an undergrad engineering student in India. I am getting opportunity to do internship ( summer training) in 2012 in US. I will be getting a J1 visa for internship. Somebody told me that if you take the J1 intern visa once, you cannot take another visa for US for the next two years. I have a plan to come to US for MS studies. For that purpose I will be getting Student Visa.
I need help.

That is correct. For some exchange programs, there is a 2 year home residency requirement.
