J1/J2 question

My husband is going to switch from a J1 to a C1/D visa and will be out of the country for a while aboard a ship. Does anybody know if I am allowed to stay in the US with my J2 dependent visa for just a couple weeks longer to close the apartment, finish work, etc.? Or is my J2 visa automatically cancelled once he enters the US with his new C1/D visa?

If he has no longer J1, you have no longer J2.
