  • I-134 Form advice request

I'm a US citizen who married an Egyptian man, and have been living with him in Egypt for more than a year. Before I came to live here I was in school for three years, and haven't worked while here, so I have no helpful income information for the sponsor form.

My sister will be a co-sponsor, but is behind in filing her taxes.

Can my sister use her W-2s in lieu of the actual return for the sponsorship?

Under the above circumstances, if I return to the US alone, and get a job, does anyone have any idea how long it will take for me to become a sponsor myself? Meaning, do I have to report income for several years to offset the years I was in school, before I can sponsor my husband?

I'm also curious how many people find themselves in my position... because I live with my husband, I don't have a US job, so I can't be his sponsor. Is this common? How do people deal with it? Do most people go home alone and hope to bring their spouses later?

    Thanks!

    I am similar -- not enough $

my fiance and i are separated by guess what -- the usual, almighty $...im really sick of it and i havent even applied for a visa yet! i work part time, making $12,000 a yr but am part owner of a home...i heard they will not consider equity as income as its not "liquid" but i guess its an asset... not sure how i could prove my home's worth as appraisals are usually lower than the real market value... just going by my income i would need a co-sponsor which would be my brother and he doesnt know my fiance since my finance is in india and has not been able 2 get here due to not being able to get off work...my fiance and i met via a matrimonial site but have never seen each other in person, but see each other regularly by cam...about a month ago my fiance informed me he applied for an immigrant visa but i told him he'll be denied because he lacks $ backing...ill never give up on my fiance and im trying to get a full time job but i have no marketable skills and very few possibilities in my area... sherry

      Support and co-sponsors

To the person in Egypt: You will also have to fill out a form yourself, even if it's not enough money. The co-sponsor will fill out one too. You don't say if you've filed yet. I assume you are doing Direct Consular Filing since you live in Egypt together. Maybe your sister has time to get her taxes done before you need the proof, especially if you haven't filed yet.

You should look for the consulates website and see if they tell about procedures and what documents they require. Every country has slightly different rules about what they need to see as proof. My consulate lists 4 examples of proof and says to have any two of the four. Egypt may be different. Call them and ask. W-2's are one form of proof.

My consulate also gives information about how the beneficiaries assets can also be used to help show they won't be a burden on society.

Your proof would not have to cover years if you could show you are earning 125% of the poverty level. An employer could write a letter saying you earn this amount of money, your job is full-time, and it is a permanent position.

I don't think I would leave Egypt just to get a job. The visa will be much quicker with Direct Consular Filing, but you have to live there to do that. Many people get co-sponsors. Your sister needs to earn 125% of the poverty level for her size household. So if sister has husband, one kid, herself, and your fiance' she has a household of 4 for the proverty level thing.

To IndiatoUSA: About the almighty $ thing you mention. Our country has to make some kind of rules that immigrants will be able to be supported until they can find work. It takes months for them to get a work permit and then they have to find the work. The US can't just open it's doors to hundreds of thousands of new people every year who will need public assistance with housing or food stamps or health care. We barely provide that for the impoverished we have now without just over-burdening the system. So they make the rules... we will let you come into our country if you can prove that somebody will be able to feed and house you until you can provide for yourself. It's not that unreasonabe. They aren't asking the immigrants to give the government $100,000 for the privilege of coming here. They just don't want to have to spread the public assistance money any thinner.
