SSN not issued for H4 to H1 :(

Hi ALL,

Help needed URGENTLY.

My H1B was approved on Oct2nd 2012.

My husband's H1B and My H4 extension was approved on Oct19th 2012 extension.

I went to SSN office for applying SSN on Oct29th 2012 and they said it is still showing as H4. So couldn't apply.

I don't know the exact reason why it is on H4?Is it because of my recent H4 approval?

What can I do now? Can anybody please help me.

This is the one of the biggest reasons why one should avoid having multiple COS filed with USCIS at teh same time. One can never be sure what COS will get approved last. It seems USCIS approved your H4 extension request after H1 approval hence you are on H4 as per the last action rule.
You should stop working for your H1 employer to avoid accumulating more out of status. Either you can file for H4 to H1 COS and work after it is approved. Or leave US, get H1 stamped abroad and re enter US on H1 to work for the H1 employer.
