H1B Visa Stamping in Toronto, CA - FEES

I'm planning to get my visa stamped in Toronto, CA this December. I'm trying to schedule an interview date, but apparently, I have to pay the fee first. What if I don't get any dates in Dec. after paying the fees? Is the fee good for a year or some period? Please let me know what happens if I cancel! I'm already very late!
