Documents kept for review and Passport retained

Hi,

I went for H1 and H4 stamping along with wife and kids. After answering all the questions regarding the employer, the VO said that he would review our documents further and will get in touch with us in 4 to 5 days. He retained all the documents and passports with him. I am confused, as neither did he give any slip and nor said approved. Any one who has faced this situation,
1. kindly help. What does this mean?
2. how will we come to know about the proceedings.
3. he also did not ask any questions to my wife. what does this indicate..

Passport not yet recd as5 days have passed. Pl suggest what to do.
