Help needed on H1B approval form

Hi Immihelp,

My H1B was approved in September and my employer has mailed me the original H1B I-797 form through USPS. But the parcel is lost and now I am in confused state as the original I797 form is missed. Though we request for the duplicate copy from USCIS it would take more than 5 months to get the document.

My employer said he would send the photo copy of the same and then appear for interview. Please advice if it is fine to appear for interview without original I797 form. We have all the tracking Number details of the lost parcel. If interviewer asks me for original, will it be fine if I can say that the parcel is lost in mail service. Please help regarding my situation as I am now left to appear for interview only with photo copy.

In general, original is required. Whether the consulate will or will not accept photocopy cannot be predicted. Furthermore, even if the consulate does accept, CBP may not accept it at POE.
