  • Filling DS-160 before marriage

    Hi,
My marriage date is 1st Feb 2013. I want to fill my and my spouse's DS-160 before that and take visa interview appointment date of 4th/5th Feb. But I called up the consulate, and they said that you can't fill your DS-160 as married status before your actual marriage date. DS160 submission date should be after your marriage date. My questions are :-
    1. Does anyone know any cases where visas are not approved if DS-160 is filled before the marriage date?
    2. If I fill DS-160 before marriage, what will be marriage status of me and my spouse?
    3. Does DS-160 ask for marriage date? Does it accept future date of marriage?

    Thanks,
    Somesh

If you were in India presently, you can do a register marriage before your actual marriage date and get a certificate from the register office and apply for ds-160,this can help out if you were in india

I am currently in US and will not be able to reach much before marriage. The question is, are they actually rejecting those applications, where DS-160 is filled as married before actual marriage date? Has anyone seen or encountered such scenario?

            Somesh,

My case was similar and this is what I did. I filled both the DS-160 as single because that was the status when I was filling the forms. There are sections in the form where you can enter the information of people (in this case your wife) you will be traveling with to the US. When I filled DS-160 for my wife, I entered myself as companion on the US trip.

I scheduled H1 and H4 stamping together (one week after marriage) and it was successful. I also had the marriage certificate with me on the stamping date. But the interviewer did not even as me for that. Our experience was short and pleasant.

            Regards,
            Madhur
