Vacation on H4 and Employer filling H1

Hi,
My wife is holding a valid h4 till march 2015. Her employer in India is going to file H1B for her for 2013 cap. Can she travel to US for at least 2-3 months and go back to India till the time she gets to know the status of her H1B approval?
Any guidance or help would be appreciated.
