  • H1B passport renewal question

    Hello Everyone,

I have a h1b visa stamped in my passport that is to last until 2014.

My passport however is set to expire this June 2013. I went over the vfs website and looked over the form to renew the passport in Houston .

However, the renewal requires me to turn in my current active passport that has the H1B stamp.

    My questions are -

    1. What will be my proof of identity if I turn in my current passport. I do have the d/l and other documents but passport is a must.
    2. Do I have to get my new passport stamped again?

    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Ranjit

You will of course not be able to travel internationally until you get the new passport. Why else do you need the ID for? DL will do for everything else.

If you answered the passport form question about whether your passport has valid Visas or not correctly, then they will return the old passport to you after cancellation. You can then travel with both passports without any problem. You will not need to again apply for the Visa.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
