New H1B petition expiry - extension

Hi,
I have a valid H1B petition (valid till Sep 2013). This is my first H1B petition
I have not got my visa stamped on my passport. Now I am not in a position to take up travel.
I would like to know if I can extend my H1B petition validity without traveling into US.
Please let me know if there are other workarounds for this situation so that the H1B petition is not wasted.

You will remain cap-exempt for the next 6 years. If you find an employer willing to file a petition for you, they can do it at any time.
