I renewed my passport while in US and currently i am back in India. I have valid H1b extension and need to get H1-B visa stamped on the new passport.
My first name in passport and petition docs are as follows:
Old passport: NAME1 ALIAS NAME2 FATHERSNAME
Petition (both original and extension): NAME1 ALIAS NAME2
New passport: NAME1 @ NAME2 FATHERSNAME
"ALIAS" word is replaced by "@". Passport office inquiry desk is saying that ALIAS and @ are used interchangeably and should not be issue, but if i really want to get it changed it would need re-issue of passport which could take long time (i was supposed to travel within next 2 weeks).
But my company visa desk is saying that we should not take a risk and its best to get a corrected passport, before applying for stamping.
Any thoughts of wisdom on this will help me immensely.
