Hello,
I recently graduated with a MS in Finance and currently work on OPT. My OPT work permit expires on May, 31st, 2014. I know that beginning April 1st, 2014 you can apply for 2015 H1-B visas which means there will be a gap between my ending OPT date and the potential H1-B start date of 7 months. I have heard that OPT can be extended for a period until you can work under H1-B work authorization but I am not too sure about it.
My plan is to stay with my current employer for at least until May 31st, 2014 and then move on to a different firm. Given I have a job offer from a firm that is willing to sponsor for an H1-B and given that OPT can be extended from my OPT end date to the potential H1-B start date in January 2015, would I be required to stay with either firm? For example would I be required to stay the 7 months with my current employer or 7 months with the new employer or a combination of both?
