Convert from H4 to H1B

Hi All,

Recently my wife had got H1B Visa and myself & my daughter got H4 Visa. We all are travel on Jan 2014. My question is Now I am having H4 Visa.
Once I reach US If I find the H1B Sponsorship I need to come back to India or in US itself I can change visa status from H4 to H1B?

I am having 9+ years of experience in Software Industry.

If convert from H4 to H1B, How long it will take? Please send your answer, its really very very helpful for me.

You can apply in US itself to convert from H4 to H1. The earliest you can apply is April 2014 and the start date can only be Oct-2014 or later.
