Query on H1 and H4 Extension

My company is in process of filing my H1B extension as my Visa is going to expire on 17th January 2014

I am not filing H4 extension for my wife as her H1B in 2013 quota got filed and is currently in RFE status.

Do i need to file my wife's H4 extension together with me ?

(or)

can i file on 10th January (once my H1 Extension petition number is received) when the RFE of my wife is still not resolved?

Please clarify.

In both the option you have the possibility of complicating the H4 to H1 COS for your spouse.
Why is spouse's H1 taking such a long time? Advisable to upgrade her H1 to premium to get a quick decision to avoid a possible confusion later on.
